This is such a creative and thought provoking book! It describes the exciting life of great wealth, along with all the things that money can and cannot buy. You get the insider view into the inner relationships of an ultra-wealthy family, with all the good and bad that money brings. There is a big debate between living a true life and succumbing to external forces. The writing is so engaging and creative, and at some point the creativity reaches a pinnacle that I haven’t seen before. I loved the book, and am looking forward to buying all books by the author. Please keep writing – I am addicted to your books!
Hidden gem! Inglish's insight into the human psyche is exceptional. This latest novel should be required reading in those struggling to understand Winnicott's theory of True and False Self. The writing itself is expansive and compelling. The structure of his writing once again delights. Highly recommend!
Effortless, enjoyable, entertaining! I was both disturbed and delighted as I flew through the life of the pathetic- yet endearing- W.B. Written in whimsical yet thoughtful prose- I couldn't put it down. I wasn't sure what to expect, based on the topic of a "homosexual, hurting, adopted heir to a newspaper empire" but I was enthralled by his depressing existence. It was almost interesting to me that I enjoyed it so much; not knowing what that says about me! But for a well written escape from the mundane storyline with a character you've never forget- GO FOR IT!
Clever and witty with a wonderful cadence. I was laughing and crying and thoroughly entertained the entire novel. W.B. is simultaneously lovable and pitiful. Radiohead's "High and Dry" was playing as I finished the book - a perfect pairing.
I feel I'm dangerously close to many of the characters who might have served as inspiration for some in this book but having said that the author has captured the essence of them perfectly. This is a very entertaining, quick witted read with a loud and clear message of love. The journey through many heartless moments will find your heart at the end, if you have one. If you have no heart, you won't get it. I recommend anything by this author, clever, entertaining, provocative and an insight most won't have the courage to give.
